Scouting for early season Michigan?

Unread postby Michigander28 » Sat Feb 15, 2020 6:02 am

Hey beasts! Hunted the local public in my area for the first time this year. (southern Michigan). Most of my activity I got into was around rut. I was curious what you guys look for or keep in mind when scouting for potential set ups for early season?

In southern mi it’s acorns near bedding in early season. Last year there was a very poor acorn crop in my area of southern mi. It made the deer more scarce on public in my opinion. When all the surrounding private has corn, hay , and beans with good bedding habitat. Like you ,my best hunts on public last year was the rut

Same thing I experienced last year, also the marshes near me were pretty flooded. The regular mature buck bedding was under water, seemed to push them up to the private corn fields which stayed up forever last year.
