Tooth in bed

Unread postby Seeker529 » Sun Oct 13, 2019 4:17 am

This morning I Tried to sneak into a 100 yard island where I saw my target buck on Monday... ended up seeing a small fork horn and few does.. I decided after climbing down to really give the area a good look.. I found only one spot with beds on both side of a oak tree.. while looking for hair in the bed (which I did find) I found a deer tooth! Guessing either a old deer losing its teeth or lost it from fighting and finally fell out!
Pretty interesting to me and definitely hard proof of a deer bed!

I've found a lot of deer skulls in bedding thickets. Mainly doe's. My best guess is it fell out of a skull when a critter carried it off. But maybe not. I just can't think of any deer I've ever killed missing teeth.

I may be way off, but I think young deer will loose their milk teeth around 1 1/2 years old or so? Kind of like our baby teeth?

Either way that’s a pretty rare find!

Yup. Baby tooth. Look at the domed out under side where the permanent tooth grew up under it. Next time your kid loses a baby molar you will see the same thing. Also. the cusps of the tooth are very pointy...minimal wear from short time usage.

Very cool find!
