WWBD?

Unread postby SoundmanD12 » Tue Sep 17, 2019 3:30 am

What Would a Beast Do?

I’ve just confirmed access to some land (~2,200 acres) to hunt this year. I’ve never set foot on the property and we’re getting close to opening day for me. I have 2 weeks where I can access the property, walk transitions, and scout or I can wait until season opens and scout my way in before my hunts.

For reference, I can only hunt 1 evening a week and most of my hunts are mornings.

Because I’m so green and you guys are a wealth of knowledge I’m looking for your opinion. Thanks in advance!

Scout, scout, hunt.

I’ve been doing more of scouting my way in to waypoints I have on onyx. I don’t have a lot of free time. I didn’t even get out on opening weekend here in WI. Hopefully next weekend will work.

With one evening a week I would try and just scout before your hunt, try and plan a route that lets you check multiple bedding areas or transition lines without the wind tipping off the deer.

I'd at least check the areas you think would be night time only use. Well away from bedding. See how large the largest tracks are. How high old rubs are, trails, etc. And if these give any clues as to which bedding terrain features may be being used.

You need to do some morning sits cause you have more free time in the mornings. Start with observation sits and work your way in. A couple 2 or 3 might give you enough intel to get in the game.
