Last year, enroute to recovering a doe i had shot, i came across a really good 9pt buck for my area. He came out of a very small pocket of woods. Well i decided to look in this area, its very lose to access and never gets pressured due to this location and size. Wouldnt you know it i bumped a half rack buck that had 4 pts on that half rack out of there! I actually caught him in his bed and watched him leave! He left before i could get my phone out to attempt a picture, but i went over to the bed and tried to see what he saw.
This was his bed.
From his bed standing facing the access
Roughly laying down view...
Less then 100yrds from the access, tucked behind some deadfall, wind typically comes over his back in that orientation, and behind the bed about 5 yrds is a nasty overgrown pipeline r o w.... couldnt believe he was living there!! Even though this is the type of spot ive been told to give a look, seeing is believing!
Found my first buck bed...... finally

Great pictures. I'm surprised he feels comfortable there given it looks like he doesn't have much elevation advantage. I guess people generally don't stop and enter the woods right there?

Those are the type of places I like. Sometimes you have to go far, but two of my largest bucks have been less than 200 yards from a road or parking area. That is where scouting pays off. Lots of guys hear they have to walk in far now so they will walk right buy a hot spot.

That's sweet man. I love finding overlooked spots. I really stop and look for them the second I step foot on any new property. I don't just dive into the spots that look great on an aerial, I stop and think about what could either provide a hide or a view of everything coming and going.
I've found a decent amount of bedding, but not as crystal clear as that one.
Good luck with it in the fall!
