Finding spring rubs

Unread postby Jrdeerhuntr » Wed Mar 27, 2019 2:43 am

This is really my first year getting into bowhunting, and my first spring scout. I have been out 4-5 times and found decent sign most of the time. My question is I know rubs tell you a deer was in area last fall at some point, but do you hunt near them the next year or just save the spot to check next fall to see if they are opened?

Most rubs are made during nightfall and can typically be ignored. The important ones are the clusters and concentrations of them you find in bedding and staging areas, and the rub lines leading to and from. Gotta find those bedding areas.

When you have a rub line leaving bedding with rubs from multiple years, those are the ones you want to stop and check in season to see if anyone is home.
