Black Bear den habits

Jumped a black bear scouting today, it was on the edge of some hardwoods and a swamp. Seemed to be lingering around maybe browsing. Those of you familiar with black bear, is this likely a denning area? Just curious about general habits. Do they move far from their den during daylight?

At this time of year I would not expect them to be near a den. Could be miles away. They just sleep on the ground like a deer at this time of year.
