3-4 preferably less. I can get to several bordering states in that time and have a reasonable shot at my goal, any mature buck. That gives me reasonable drives for long weekend hunts. Once I drive to the midwest that's big commitment at this point in my life, at that level of effort I figure I might as well keep driving to hunt elk.

Not very far for me, my wife runs a tight ship! Can't complain the agreement is if I stay in the area I can pretty much go whenever I want. I have days when far away areas are calling, but I just rationalize why mess with a good thing.

I've done a five hour drive one way for scouting and that's pretty much the limit. Makes for a LONG day I drive 2-3 hrs a good bit for a day of scouting and don't find that bad at all.

Re: How far will you go for an out of state scout?
I try to keep the majority of my of my scouting wether it be in state or out of state within 3 hours.
I live in NE Oklahoma, but I also hunt in Missouri and occasionally Kansas. Those states are within the 3 hour drive from me.
That being said, I’m looking to try and start hunting some other states that are farther away than that in the future, so I will probably stretch out my scouting as well.

I’m debating now if I wanna make a 9-12 hr drive to scout some areas within the next few weeks or just scout and hunt when I make my planned trip. (I’m leaning on the scout/hunt option more and more)

I just drove 19 hours to Wyoming for some scouting, but I went for 6 days and added some sightseeing to break up the trip. I don't mind long drives and seeing new country either which helps. If I just have a weekend, I would say 7-8 hours max for me

1 hour in state, maybe 2.
I will do a flash scout when I go to MI if I have to.
And set up at that time.

Not far. When hunting out of state I almost exclusively Google Scout. It brings its challenges, but I enjoy doing it that way. Plus it saves lots of money on gas. I've had success and failure when hunting this way and expectation management is key. A lot of times the subsequent trips are more productive.

3 1/2 hours to southern Ohio public land I’d the furthest I’ve went. I found that going that far I have to stay over night I just can’t do the drive back after scouting all day.

2-4 hours is about it. That gives plenty of area's to scout and another state (NY) to look at.

We usually do a President's Day weekend trip. The spot we've hunted the last few years is about an 8 hour drive. We're scouting Iowa next year. It'll be about 12. We drive through the night after work Friday night, get a few hours a sleep then scout Saturday and Sunday. Drive back Monday.

From Tennessee to Ohio is my farthest scouting trip so far, but I've got further trips planned.
