My biggest hurdles for both hunting and scouting are time and distance. My wife and I typically work opposite shifts, and when she is working I am drop off and pick up for our son. That means I can't leave town until 0800, drive an hour and a half, scout as much as I can, drive an hour and a half, and be back by 1730. I tend to leave an extra hour for travel (30 minutes each way) so that's only 5 hours in the field max for 3/4 of a tank of gas. It ends up being pretty cost intensive, and location limiting, so I don't do it any more than I have to. Beast mentality and learning topo maps has made these trips MUCH more productive.

Go where none other dare to go, and there you'll find success.

What is green up?

My obstacles are:
1. I live in the wrong state
2. I live on the wrong end of the wrong state
3. 3rd kid due in Dec
4. Life
5. Everything else

Against all odds I shall try and kill some deer this fall. Man do I miss deer season right now. Thank goodness I am back at it in about 8-9 weeks

The Wife!!! Good lord please cut me a break...
I'm no catch... she could leave me for many things. I'd hate for hunting to be one of them. It's a tough balance, one I think we all stuggle with. Unfortunately when we got together I wasn't this dedicated so it's tough on her. Even worse she says iv ruined hunting for her... I think that is a mixture of my obsession and being new parents. Once we had our girl it was a light switch. So with all that said I could be better about everything, my only hope is I get better or faster at everything I do so that a happy median can be found.

Great thread I really enjoyed reading everyone's obstacles.

Time or lack thereof is mine. The wife gets madbut she gets over it. Having time to spend scouting like I need too is my biggest obstacle.
