Odd Tree Markings
I found these while out scouting last weekend. The first picture / marking I think was from a bear as I know they are present in heavy numbers. Also the marking is starts about head high (bears head) and is dragged to the ground.
These pictures are similar, but I am not sure bears are in this area (Separate States) not sure what did this? Also marking are waist high and well above ground.

Not sure, the bear rubs I have seen are usually up higher, like 5 ft or more.

Re: Odd Tree Markings
Could that first one be a beaver? I've seen similar stuff around beaver dams figured it was a young beaver. Something was chewing it for sure.

Could be, there are beaver around, although that particular tree was about 1000' feet from a marsh nearby.

Were the trees alive? I've seen stuff like that on alot of dead trees. Always figured it was a combo of bugs and woodpeckers. Some of the lower stuff could be from skunks and coon ripping at it for the bugs.

The trees looked healthy enough. If dead, I tjink they died after the bark was removed, but I could be wrong.

Re: Odd Tree Markings
I've seen some trees that look similar to the 1st one where rabbits/mice chewed them up in the marsh. Not sure though.

I agree on the woodpeckers. They will make quick work of a dead tree full of ants. Not sure on that healthy looking tree? Any moose in the area?

Re: Odd Tree Markings
After doing some online searches I think its a porcupine, if it was a wood pecker I think there would be more defined holes in tree.
I have been seeing these a lot in this area. I may have to put a camera on it.
