Mapping

Unread postby TNstalker » Tue Mar 21, 2017 4:23 am

So I'm making a map for a friend and he is not very good with computers. So is there away I can export just a topo view of his property from caltopo where he can open on his email and print without having to import the KML file to caltopo?

You could try the print function to save it as a pdf or jpg file.

Print to .pdf file. Save the .pdf and email that. Only drawback is you'll have to generate (print) each layer (topo, satellite, etc)

Actually, it will print multiple layers in a single pdf but they'll be flattened (you won't be able to view them separately). Caltopo won't export or print Google images though, so you'll have to choose your layers accordingly.

You guys could just make the map on caltopo and share the map as a link. Just tell him to use the scroll on the mouse to zoom in and out. When you share it will stay in the exact location you are looking on the screen so really you could send multiple links for the same area just different specific spots and it takes him right to it. Then he can literally just click print. Or just teach him scroll to zoom Then next step later is just teaching him to change between ariel and topo.

Or just create a new account and share a login?

Yes. It should now be saved on your computer as a pdf file. Send it to him as an attachment like any other.
