cancelled - 2017 Hill country workshop. Saturday March 18th
Me and Jeff G. have been planning a Hill country workshop on Jeffs land in Minnesota along the Wisconsin border for March 18th if there is enough interest. This is land Jeff hunts. I walked it once last year and have confirmed it holds some decent bucks. Who is interested? We will work out a meeting place and time shortly. Cost will be $150. We are trying to arrange a meal at a local tavern afterwords, probably pizza.

I maybe interested. Reminder to first timers... Bring a bottle of water and rest well the night before, those hills along the border are no joke.

I am definitely interested. Wife is having a major surgery on the 13th, so I will have to see how she is. Right now I am 90% committed to attending. I will let you know for sure closer to the day. What town is this near, I have friends family around Redwing and my land isn't far from Ellsworth. Just curious.

South of Red Wing, in a little town called Frontenac.

Start at 8:30 AM end in the mid-afternoon, and then go someplace to eat. There are always 1 or two that skip the meal.

Re: 2017 Hill country workshop. Saturday March 18th
We need at least 7 people to sign up to make this happen, or it will get postponed to next year...
We are going to look at how to scout hilly terrain. We are going to learn where bucks bed in such terrain, look at the beds, talk about where, why, and when bucks use them. And look at where, when, and how to kill the occupants. I have only been on the property once before briefly, and don't remember much. But Jeff has hunted it for years. It will be interesting to see if my thoughts match his observations.

Re: 2017 Hill country workshop. Saturday March 18th
My property is in Frontenac mn. Across the road is Frontenac state park which is thousands of acres and gets little no no hunting pressure. Tons of hill country with lots of areas tht are not accessible to hunting. Last 5 or 6 years has been antler restrictions and we have seen some giants grow up. A legal buck must have 4 points in one antler. Lots of hiding spots for bucks to reach a mature age. I have hunted this property for the last 25 years and have done very well. I know where all the bucks bed, how they use thermals and how they cruise nob to nob in the rut. Rut hunting is very easy on this property and I can show you How I set up and why.
Deer live on the property year round, they are use to some human interaction, but only in certain areas.
I can share my findings of:
1. Thermal tunnels
2. How bucks enter the low spot on a field
3. How bucks bed on the many points we have
4. Doe bedding
5. Overlooked spots
6. Stacking
7. low impact trail cam inventory
8. How we tag team the property in bow and gun seasons
Last spring dan and I were doing a workshop in pepin. We had time to kill so I took dan down to our farm to walk around. I took him they very quickly. Normally I keep my intel quiet, but I told dan we should show some of these examples to fellow beasts. They are very easy to learn from and might help you get in a hill country buck.
We will start at 8:30 in the morning and finish in the afternoon. We will meet just outside of lake city, property is only 10 minutes away. We will have pizza afterwards and answer any questions you have. Bring maps if you want.
Here are a couple pics of some of the bucks I have taken off our farm.

I believe I'm up for this. I would drive up from Missouri. Sounds like a blast. If there are any Missouri guys who want to carpool shoot me a PM. I live in Jefferson City.
