USGS real time water data

Unread postby Josh_S » Fri Mar 03, 2017 3:27 am

Just wanted to share this with the rest of you. It's a nice tool to use in determining water levels. I have always used if for stream fishing, but now find myself using it for scouting and hunting. It can help determine if an area with high water is even worth scouting or hunting a particular day. Just click on the state, then the river you want to know water data for.

I use this a lot too. Had planned on accessing some areas by kayak this weekend but the storms changed that plan in a hurry

Man good thinking. I've used those for fishing out west. Just never occurred to me to check it. To help gauge water depths in a marsh/swamp. Makes sense.   :handgestures-thumbup:

If you are on a larger river, all of the paper mills and dams have gauges as well. Works great for the river bottoms of the Wisconsin for me.

I have a couple bookmarked that I check daily since I have a camper in the 100 year flood plain. Had to pull it out 3 times in the last 10 years and would have been too late if we didn't have those gauges to tell us the water level forecast.
