Nice bump Dan! Gosh, I really miss those early days of The Hunting Beast. This thread was started one week before I joined as a member. I had a lot of respect for some of the posters on this thread....."raised by wolves", "blackwolf", "SWAMPTHING". I wonder if they still check in on the forum?

With the knowledge that I have gained by following The Beast, I can say I enjoy the scouting, sign reading equally as much as the actual hunting. Back when I was a young man I used to hate the month of March (brown, wet, dreary). Now it may be my favorite month of the year!

My post in this thread from 8 years ago is still right on with how I feel. Since then I have quit ice fishing because it interfered with my winter/spring scouting. While I was sitting on the lakes all I could think about was past hunts and locating those bucks while scouting. It drove me nuts that I was wasting a day on the ice instead of exploring bedding areas. Guess it’s official......I’m nuts and a scouting fanatic who is totally obsessed with buck beds. It’s a good sickness to have.....I think. :shifty:

I enjoy scouting, especially new areas. I like hunting more, but truly enjoy the whole process year round.

I love scouting too. Learning new ground and picking areas apart keeps me ticking. I don't think I would be very interested in hunting if I were limited to a few hundred acres.

I gotta say scouting is pretty peaceful and low stress. Sometimes I feel pressure to register results when hunting. I’ve had many hunts not go my way but not scouting adventures. I never think of a bad scouting trip as a waste of time, I just think to myself- glad I didn’t waste time there during hunting season.

I am just starting to learn that scouting is just as much fun as hunting. Found some beds with hair in them the other day and felt like I found buried treasure...

It’s a great feeling to scout out a spot in winter or spring then kill a good buck your first sit there in fall. I like scouting new ground but there’s nothing like having your bow in hand

Scouting is definitely a year round passion for me! Especially during the season!

Most other will never understand. They think scouting starts 1 month before the season. I know it never end...And I'm good with that 8-)

Scouting is alot of effort but is enjoyable.
I do sometimes wonder if I spend too much time scouting. It can take a tremendous amount of time to find and pick the correct tree. 5 plus hours. To put stand in sit throw milkweed 30 minutes move 15 yards do over. Wind documentation for each tree.

I find too many spots then need to reduce them. A issue I had my first 2 years was quantity over quality.

It definitely keeps our leg muscles strong and keeps the weight off.

I like hunting more then scouting that feeling of setting up correctly and doing things right like entry routes is very cool.

I think I hunt the right areas alot I hunt the right tree very little. Perhaps this shows my scouting is not thorough enough. My speed has slowed down alot from my previous beast years.

I ABSOLUTELY enjoy scouting more than hunting. The discovery process of scouting is what I look forward to most.

The Beast has really taught me how to scout and what to look for and when. The increased confidence from scouting has made the hunting more fun. Learning to play hide and seek with these deer in the offseason has been a bunch of fun and pretty eye opening for this rookie.
