I think we often overlook the the secondary oxbows in the river bottoms, that can have buck beds. The main river oxbows are much more pronounced. I think the secondary oxbow beds hold more buck beds than the primary river oxbows. We often know where the bucks come from but often don't see the beds.

Stan I couldn't tell for sure. But are these secondary oxbows the old dried up rivers beds? Most of the spots circled are well away from where the river is now flowing in the pic.

Yes some old river channels. I actually think these hold more buck beds than the main river oxbows. Feeder tributary creeks can also have oxbows.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Thanx! This is good to know.

So you guys that hunt these, can you show some setup examples? To me that is the hardest part.

I'd check out those oxbows and little island to the south as well.
I have been on those little islands before, there mostly very tall hemlock trees with no underbrush. I saw a lot of doe sign in there. And I found 2 good buck beds off of the smaller island
I never got a chance to hunt them because I couldn't figure out a way to set up on them. I'll be scouting this spot hard here in the coming weeks. I'll be taking pictures.

If you have some clustered bedding like in the examples. I always start on the leeward side and work my way from the closest to the farthest. It often takes some time as you have to wait on the proper wind direction. No short cuts, just hunt when the conditions are right.

That makes sense but where do you setup on the bed? I assume it can depend on where they go when they leave the bed but generally speaking is it better to setup on the Inside corner on either side of the oxbow just slightly off wind?

I prefer to keep the water in between me and the buck. Getting as close as you can is also a factor. If you know where the bed is you set up accordingly. Not all set ups are the same. You may not have a tree where you want it. If you know the food source then set up in between the bed and the food source. Set up an observation stand to help get a handle on things. Many things determine where to set up. No one size fits all.
