I found a nice looking spot on the map and checked it out today. Two fresh doe beds there, one new rub and 4 old rubs. Bingo! Buck bedding, right?? The problem is, I'm not 100% sure on this one. There is also an illegal stand 20 yards away, and trails heading across the frozen swamp. It is obviously not a Beast stand location. WAYYYY to close to the bed and easily within sight. I'm confident its most likely a gun hunter covering that trail, which happens to stick out like a sore thumb on an aerial.
I see rubs in this situation ALL THE TIME. Most often they come across a large expanse of cattails or grass and hit the trees, and they rub. What has me doubting this bed is if they cross thru those cattails year round, I think those rubs will be there due to their travel, and not the bed itself. I see rubs in this fashion at river crossings all the time as well. I don't know how mucky it is or if they cross there in the summer. It is 300-400 yards of cattails.
Thoughts?

I would say no to it being a buck bed. The way I read your discription of the area is that there is a heavy trail coming through the cats, on to a point. Kidna like the deer are trying to take the shortest path to get outa the muck.
In my experience bucks aren't going to bed (with the exception of the rut) in high traffic areas. Perhaps this is a rut bedding location? either way it sounds like it could be productive during the rut.

Sounds like it could be a trail used by does more, and bucks check for doe scent there and mark the trail where they cross it.

Maybe I shouldn't have used the word heavy. It looks that way on the aerial because it's a spring pic and they'd worn a path thru there all winter. I should try and view it on a summer pic and see if it shows.
We got a fresh snow two days ago and I'd say this trail has had maybe 15 deer use it since then. So it doesn't see a TON of use.

15 deer in two days is a highway around here...
That sounds too good to be true!
Go where none other dare to go, and there you'll find success.

It might not even be that many, but keep in mind this is a wintering area and they group up big time. I hunted this property for does three times this season and only saw a total of 3 and heard another.
