what kind of tree is this

Found this growing next to a bunch of persimmons trees. Looks real similar other than the fruit. What is it and do deer eat it?

Looks like a button brush or a button wood tree to me. They usually grow in pretty wet areas. Got a closer pic of the little balls?

Thanks. Going to be hard to get another pic right now. I'm 3.5 hr drive from that area. This pic was taken in a slough so that would make sense

My guess is strawberry bush. If it is deer love them.

Yes button bush. Deer love bedding in it when it's dry.
