Cameras now?

Unread postby kwaldeier » Fri Aug 26, 2016 12:29 pm

Where do you have good luck this time of year getting pictures of bucks? Seems like I can't find them once they stop using mineral licks until scrapes open up. Field edges? Etc? Going to be a down year thanks to ehd. Have 0 shooters on camera thus far so it will be a genetic selection year...

I switched mine to suspected entrance/exit for bedding areas.

Sept, food in relation to know beds. Right now, I am concentrated on acorns. I want to know when those first nuts start hitting the ground and when and if the bucks I am targeting start using those food sources. Early Oct, same deal. Food.

And same Ikeman...entrance and exits to beds. Typically, try to stay far enough away from the beds so as to not spook the deer. Its kind of the same thing that I am doing except it involves food. I hunt all timber. All my food is very handy to known bedding. Bucks many times get up and move 75yds and they are on a food source.

In fact today...just saw first acorns caps with broke up pieces of acorns on the ground, along with droppings. Been waiting for 2 months to see this. I fully expect to see more of this before the Sept 10 opener. Cams have been pretty dry in this area for a few weeks. BUT I expect that to change. I have the same bucks .75 miles away feeding in a different area.

Put them on scrape trees even if they aren't opened up yet, they are probably using the licking branch to see who is around.

Destination spots (food, water, licking branches, etc) and entry/exit routes to bedding areas
