Checked all my cams this weekend and every buck is still carrying full velvet yet and didn't find any fresh rubs. I think within a week or so it will really get going.

Re: Anybody lose their velvet yet? Fresh rubs?
The earliest fresh rub I ever saw was on August 17th....that was quite a few years ago. Around here most bucks loose their velvet right now, within a few days of Sept 1st.
Just saw the first fresh rub of the year yesterday, was made in the last couple days. Under an isolated oak dropping acorns like mad, looked like a cattle feedlot underneath. Made me want to hang a stand and hunt but instead settled for hanging a cam...still a month to the opener

I heard they shed like crazy after the first heavy rain in September. Anyone ever notice this? I got a trail cam pic one year of a buck with velvet hanging down. They say the process doesn't take long like a few hours

Re: Anybody lose their velvet yet? Fresh rubs?
Went on a scouting/stacking mission yesterday. No fresh rubs and this area typically has lots of rubs on the aspens and young cottonwoods. Last week I'm pretty sure 2 yearling bucks I saw had velvet hanging. Will be nice to have nice white/tan antlers for shining. Much easier to see than brown velvet.
Any day now!

Yep from what I have seen Sept 1-10 is prime velvet shed time.

Man Joe...that is EXACTLY what I am hoping to find this next week. Been watching some acorn spots real close to beds. Season opens 9/10 so anything like that...its gold right now. So if I find that this next week...kiss work good bye...I am useless.

Seen a couple hard horned most still have the fuzz. I always figure around Sept 15th they are mostly clean where I hunt. Should be a continuous process now.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Glassed a couple bucks that were completely shed last night. Funny how they don't look nearly as big once they shed.

Saw a nice 8 in s mi last night, bloodly rack. Looks like he got rid of the velvet within the past day or two.

Will see Thursday. Going to check a cam and do some light spot checks on oaks and apple trees.
