Public scout tomorrow, maps included.

Unread postby buckeye » Fri Apr 08, 2016 7:24 am

Headed down for the 2.5 hour drive tomorrow. Our winds are 95% Westerly with SW having the lions share of that. We do get the NW winds during the season as well. Very rarely a East wind.

A lot of ground to cover here. As you see in the photos on the top 1/3 of a section is a open field / pine tree reforestation area that is about 60 acres.

The section outlined is just about 700 acres total.

The North has great access, The East has good access, the South and West have no direct public access. The locals do have a decent bit of four wheeler trails throughout the property though.

Anything that is not obvious jumping out at you to check out?

Funny, you mention that as it was the first area I noticed as well. That spot has fields on 2 sides limiting travel further. Really hope to find a bed on one of those two points.

It was hard for me to study your ariel as far as those transitions... Also, I just marked the area to west just bc if there is a east wind there is for sure deer bedding there, maybe even a good one, just bc the view and advantage on that cliff and he has many options to move mid day. Good luck!
Yellow - Bedding
Blue - Point of Interest

Also,, a few spots I missed... SW corner that I marked - over the property line looks great! And the SE spot I marked I meant to wrap it around the ridge.

I can't really add anything else except I bet you will find the majority of the bedding near the 1000 foot elevation line. Let us know how you make out.

I would also walk that entire powerline to the south and catch some tracks and find trails

Looks like you got it pretty covered... 1 area not mentioned by the others is right on the north border against the road. there is a small drainage that runs East/west leaving a small ridge along the road. If there is any thick cover along that its a typical area that would be over looked with hunters walking right past... I like the main ridge along the 1000 elevation lines for good rut movement and possible bedding but am worried there might be a lot of pressure. I like the far S/W corner and would check out the ridge over looking the drainage that would work for all your common winds.

Lockdown, can you show me what you mean? I don't see the bench. Your photo bucket link went bad. Im just trying to get inside the head of you pros! I'd like to equate these hot spot areas you guys point out to my own public spots here in PA.
