Bit of a disappointing day scouting...

Unread postby mainebowhunter » Fri Feb 05, 2016 7:29 am

Well, it happens. But I sure hate to see it. One of my favorite farms I hunt, had potential 5 bucks to hunt next season that would be 3.5-6.5. Not quite sure if 2 of them made it. Was sure about the other 3 ...until today. Its tough enough having low deer densities without losing bunch like this. Lucky, there is no snow. Crazy though...he was either sick and I could not tell OR coyotes killed a healthy deer on bare ground.

He would have been a decent 3.5 this coming season. Tough part about this state, 6 weeks of firearm hunting from Nov 1st to December 15th. 4 weeks rifle, 2 weeks muzzy. What the coyotes don't kill, the rifle hunters do.

Bummer for sure.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Nope. You are right. BUT its all part of it. I remember watching videos from 2012 and 2013 where guys were finding GIANT deadheads ....victims of EHD. Bill Winke found a super great buck, close to 200" -- victim of EHD.

Every day I hit gold scouting usually comes with 3-4 mediocre days or a day like this where I'm tempted give up on deer hunting for good.
