While scouting on Sunday I found a spot in the cover next to a food plot that was covered in deer tracks. It literaly looked like a cow pasture. I could see where they were browsing there.
As I walked next to one of the fields I found another spot just like it. Tracks everywhere brush browsed right down to the ground.
Im new to alot of this so wandering if these are staging areas. Do the deer use staging areas all year round?

Re: Staging Area
I'm not expert myself but I would guess wintering area close to a reliable food source.

I agree, unless the ingredients are there for summer/fall buck bedding adjacent to the food source it's probably a product of a great winter food source that has deer bedding close to conserve energy.

Re: Staging Area
I consider a staging area to be the place close to bedding where the deer hang out until they feel its safe to move to there destination, also could be a different food source close to bedding like an oak dropping acorns they hit before heading into the fields.

Re: Staging Area
I would say it is a winter staging area.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
