Bluffs

When looking at topos, what do bluffs mean to you? How do deer use them, if at all, or are they just a physical barrier that keeps hunters from diving any deeper into a property?

I hunt some property in MN with bluffs, some bluffs are a difficult climb for humans, but is a cake walk for deer. can be an overlooked spot.

If the bluff is very, very steep I use it to my advantage and read it as a funnel.

I've hunted a lot of bluffs in Canada that are bigger than what the guys are used to in Minne and Wisc. I agree with what Jeff said. The deer utilize them with ease for bedding and travel, rut included. Even in low deer density areas they can concentrate travel, especially when they are steep.

Steep bluffs with sharp drops create no-brainer hunting spots on the leeward side of the bluff (downwind side), up on top next to the sharp dropping edge. Getting to that edge is always the challenge.
