Looking for some insite

Unread postby Joe68 » Wed Dec 09, 2015 4:07 pm

Iam just learning how to use topo maps. I have read Mapping trophy Bucks as well. What I am looking for is if anyone could point me in the right direction for some key points this map. I'm a visual learner. I didn't quite understand some of the topics talked about in the book. I know I have to get the DVDs. Hopefully a Christmas gift from my wife. Any tips would be helpful.Image

Hope you get a veterans opinion.Figure out your dominant wind for the whole year and then the dominant wind for prime hunting months. I did miss marking a couple points but you get the idea. I just got Hill Country Bucks in the mail. GET IT! Worth every dime and the off season is coming up you wanna be ready if you are going to scout.

Yellow - Possible Bedding

Another thing to look for are the top side of deep cuts or deep ravines whatever you want to call them. They can sure funnels deer travel down to a smaller area.

x2, this is how I setup. I found a narrow bench (flat spot on a side hill) about 8ft wide. It was at the top of a really steep drainage, so deer funneled around the top of the drainage on the bench. It was kind of an awkward setup for shooting, so the next day I moved further down the bench away from the top of the drainage, where the bench turned into a point. Buck came right down the bench skirting the top of the drainage.

Also, get the dvds and keep reading the mapping trophy bucks book.

Oldan boone - I meant same as what they said. The tops for trails. But there can be secondary trails. I killed my 2ND buck this season at the bottom of one where he had a rub leading to a different wind bed he cam strait down the side of it from the top.
