Camera bombing

Unread postby dirt nap giver » Fri Dec 04, 2015 11:30 am

The act of placing excessive amount of cameras on a property to better learn the habits of your target in the shortest amount of time.
Coined.

Just did this today.

I have a small parcel that has multiple large rubs in it year after year. Because of the terrain and the way the woods adjoin the CRP, it is difficult to hunt due to thermals and the way the wind wraps around the block of woods.

Not much will be able to move through this block without hitting one of the 12 cameras.

How long are you waiting to check them?

I received a pic of a GIANT buck 3 days ago and got permission to chase late season. I went out and camera bombed the entire farm for the next 3 week gun season. Hopefully I can figure out where he's hanging out and feeding. Maybe by Jan 10 I'll get a bullet down range at him. Good strategy if you can place the cams quietly.

Leaving them till spring will be the only way to find out what is really going on.
I am a big fan of using cameras as Intel for next year rather than this year. I've wasted to much time using them any other way.
I'm done hunting here in Michigan except for one doe tag, and I doubt I'll fill it just because I have enough meat in the freezer.

This spot really gets fired up late season, so timing is perfect.

Nice.
Placing the cams quietly is important if they are currently using the area. In my situation, they really start to use this spot once the brutal N/NW winds crank up which is right around the corner.

Really?
I use lithium batteries and my batteries will last me all season unless I am on a major travel corridor where they are going off dozens of times a day. Deer population might have a say in that too.

I've never tried lithium batteries, I don't know if my wallet can take it with D and C batteries. I generally only run cams Aug thru early Dec anyways. As it is one set of regular ones last those 4 months for me.

Ive kind of done this on my small parcel this year. I did check several of them once, but they were reasonably safe to access.

The newer cams are so much better on batteries(my old C and D users were pathetic). My primos blackouts go a looong time on 8 AA batteries. It has an extra "supercharged" case that holds 16 more AA's. I wont ever use those since they have taken thousands of pics per set of 8 AA's so far on food plots.

I understand that! if one set is lasting you according to your needs, then why change it?
I normally pull my cams in January after the season closes, but with this spot if I go in there in January, I'll be blowing them out of their late season winter spot. I want them to stay nice and relaxed during that time. Leaving the cam's till spring will leave the deer uninterrupted.

My Coverts hold 12 AA's and man can they go for a long time. I'm always amazed when I'm still using the same batteries at the end of turkey season that I bought the fall before
