So I have been scouting and scouting more trying to come up with 25-30 bedding areas where I stand a good chance of arrowing a nice buck.
This weekend, I checked out a couple bedding areas on a new chunk of public land and 2 out of 3 of the bedding ridges not only had visible beds, but also scrapes and single rubs! (Thanks Dan for helping with my maps!! :) ) Should I wait until next year to hunt these??
I made a picture in Paint of typical bedding areas I'm going to be hunting on a South wind. Please be nice because I obviously am not an artist. Maybe I am being too cautious.
Here is what is going on.
1) The purple is a field either cut corn/beans or often CRP.
2) The Red circles are where I have confirmed the bucks are bedding.
3) The bucks are bedding 80 or 100 yards to the North of the field edge. The bucks have a south wind that blows over the creek bottom, making it next to impossible to approach from the North.
4) The Blue Star represents a drop off between the two ridges where it seems like a funnel area and where I naturally set up. (I'm wondering if I am too far away from the bed in some cases).
5) I would only hunt these on a South wind when the bucks are in the beds, but its tough because I am always paranoid about the buck catching my wind.

Your setup is perfect. Just be sure not to walk upwind of either point, which will be tough.
I would hunt it once ASAP since you already scented it up. In the future you can just walk that field edge and look for big tracks and you will know when there is likely a good one bedding there.
Also you could hunt it on a sw or se wind on the appropriate leeward edge... That would be a little safer setup.

Re: Check out my typical Bedding in Hill Country
Thanks PK.
One thing I will mention about the other spot I checked out. I didn't find bedding sign like I was expecting, but I did find a portable stand that had been hung within the last few weeks. Right within 20 yards of where I would expect a bed to be and the stand wasn't but 6 ft off the ground in a somewhat thick bedding area (Maybe an older hunter).
The problem with this spot was the access was just too easy for him. It was a .75-1.0 mile walk to get to the stand, but just along the standing corn so it wasn't difficult.
Had this spot not been boogered Im sure Dan would have been 3 for 3!!

Your setup looks good but man access will be tough. Your scent will want to roll along one or the other of those points as you walk in with the wind at your back - looks like they are only 100 yards apart or less if you drew your map to scale? I would say hunt it with a stronger wind, your scent plume will be narrower - like a plume of smoke on a brisk day versus one with a really light wind that spreads out more.
