where did the beans go
good evening - hope all is well with everyone- I noticed that the Illinois public hunting land that I hunt was not planted with beans this year as it has in the past 7 years . in your expeirances - how does that change my hunting patterns as well as the feeding patterns of the deer that use that property. it is now planted with hay fields for some odd reason - its covers about 10,000 acres and I would say that 30% is heavily wooded with creeks running throughout and relatively flat / sloping land . thanks in advance for any tips or advice .

Re: where did the beans go
Beans and hay will be pretty similar with the exception that hay will probably be a superior draw compared to beans in October when the beans turn yellow, especially if they cut the hay later in the year so that there is fresh regrowth.
If you had corn as opposed to beans or hay, then you might get a pretty significant shift in movement along the transition line between timber and corn where there might be daytime activity along the field edge. With beans and hay, daytime activity along the field line will probably be limited to does and younger bucks, especially as the pressure ramps up and the season progresses.
