How do you guys find trails in the pines ? Most of what I hunt is planted pines and the under growth is pretty think and at least 5' to 6' tall. This past weekend i tried scouting some but never got on any good trails. Plus we have had a massive amount of rain the past few months and every where is wet.
I tried riddind the roads looking for trails coming out of the woods but none were any good. I tried walking transition lines but no trails there either. I tried walling around ponds and still no trails.
There's plenty of deer on the property i even saw about 10 on the roads Sunday i just need to find some trails to scout out.

If its wet I would start at the food sources and look for tracks and then follow tracks to trails.

I find trails by accident. Like a deer, I like to travel the easiest path. I find myself on trail just because it is the best walking with the fewest obstacles.

You may be better off observing. Several areas I hunt don't have any obvious trails until December or January. Deer kind meander and don't follow a specific line...some places you'd never know deer used it if you didn't see for yourself and I'm talking 5 to 10 at a time.

Big bucks won't beat a path down like a doe family group so try to keep an open mind to that.

Re: How do you find trails?
In that type of terrain you will be hard pressed to find many of the beaten down, worn out deer trails most are used to. The movement is just not confined like it is in hill country, farm country and swamps/marshes. Food and bedding are far too sporadic as well. If you find a long hard transition where the terrain goes from open to thick, walk inside the thick section, 5-10 yards inside there will be a worn down parallel trail following the length of the transition, almost always. Strips of high ground running through a wet area will usually have ancient worn down trails along them. Creek crossings and other hard funnels are good bets as well.
No Shortcuts. No Excuses. No Regrets.

Re: How do you find trails?
Alot of the areas I hunt the trails are very hard to see. im not sure why but they just dont show up well. Scout it in the winter when there is snow if u can. Until then trust the transition lines.

Walk the perimeter of the pine plantation. Sometimes you can find where they like to enter/exit the grove.

Folks often walk right past sign without noticing it, its the fast paced world......rushing....rush to work, rush too dinner, always rushing. Slowing down may help.
I have heard that somewhere before?
