have you guys found that tree height directly relates to ground height/high spots in wetland marsh? the example below specifically the one circled in orange looks like the tallest tree in the area and my initial thought process is that it appears taller on bing maps birds eye view because that tree is on higher ground compared to those around it but then i'm thinking its the closest to the river so i would expect it to be in water since this area sees frequently flooding, i checked caltopo and the area is entirely flat and even with the river, the red dots are areas i thought would be good for bedding, blue are tentative stand spots, new to this just seeing if i'm on the right tract to locating beds from some of you more experienced guys.
Tree height in wetland marsh have anything to do with beds?

tHE BIGGER TREES ARE GROWING ON LAND AT A DIFFERENT ELEVATION. The land may appear flat, but its only a 1 or two foot elevation difference that makes the differance.

Dan, say that all the land leading up to one of those bigger patches of trees is covered in water say about 1,000 yards or so of 2 ft deep water before the bucks can get to those beds do you think the deer would travel through it to bed there? ever had any experience like that?

Bucks will travel a mile or more through standing water to reach a secluded bed.
Also beware, certain types of trees are different, they grow bigger in deeper water, down here it is cypress trees. Not sure if there is a variety up north that is similar. But that particular tree looks like a high ground one and in a perfect spot.

PK is right on... I have seen many deer cross water to bed or bed on a hump under a tree surrounded by water many times... When swamp or marsh hunting, most of the time.
PK, up here very few if any trees survive in year round water.

I would agree with PK and Dan based on the bedding I have observed in swamps and marsh. The slightest elevation change makes a big difference and that could be a good distance from any true solid ground.
I always marvel at how effortlessly a deer can move through a swamp knee deep in mud and water... something that is very laboring for us bipeds

Bowhunter1322 thanks for posting a clear example of a possible hunting set up. The size you posted was ideal for getting good answers and feedback to that question.

I scouted a tamarack swamp this spring, all the trees were similar in size and I was having a difficult finding beds in the monoculture but the sign was there. Then I noticed two white pines about 20 yards apart no bigger than any of the tamrack, both had multiple beds and rubs surrounding them. Just slightly higher ground but the odd tree was the key to seeing it.

I see what PK does as well with cypress. They are often in the deeper water. Many times there is a mound they grown on and are surrounded by deeper water and many times there is no mound at all
