See the pattern?

Unread postby BHC » Mon Apr 06, 2015 3:16 pm

Today while turkey hunting, I walked a ridge top and dropped waypoints at all the deer trails that crossed over the ridge top. Do you see a pattern? I do, but would like to see if others think along the same lines. Also note, The NW point and Far East point are the only ones with good buck sign. Both lead to to food plots(you can barely make out the beginnings of the plot to the NW.

You sound like me..........turkey scouting/hunting always turned into a deer scouting mission instead. :lol:

That's why I don't even apply for a tag anymore!

Might want to black out your coordinates. ;)

I see it.
X2 on the black out of coordinates. Not doing so invites unwanted company

I usually black out coordinates, but forgot on that one. I dunno how to edit it. It's private property, and behind locked gates so someone would have to be brave to leave their vehicle and try to walk in...
Any how. We have a predicate N-W wind during hunting season. Some fronts bring S/SW winds.
These trails are all connecting the ravines. But also are perfect for deer to bed on the small knobs/mini points. They follow those trails 2/3's of the way up hill, and it takes them up these ravines/cuts.
What's interesting is where the trails w buck sign is. If the buck is bedding on the point downwind those waypoints. He is also downwind or close to it of the plot. He also gets to travel to the plot w wind in his face. This is all assuming they bed there when wind is blowing down that point.

Need to go confirm those beds next.

Staring at your pic I thought my phone was almost dead. No charger with me, Semi-panicked...

Found your pattern. They are all crossing the road at the top of the ridge. You're welcome.

The best puzzle piece I got from this was that both the trails with buck sign had a big similarity. They had an opposite facing point. Both had good rubs, the one the the east had a few scrapes that were freshly worked since the rain the day before. Now just need to walk these trails out and find bedding. I marked suspected bedding, black=N wind bed
Yellow= W wind bed.
