Agreed. Although this is the scouting forum, Dan's advise is definitely something to keep in mind when it comes time to hunt this public land. Although that big hill might be easier to hike, if you took time off work to scout, spend your time walking through the most difficult, wet, tangley mess you can find.

Top of the map is north. South wind meaning it blows from the south.
