Happy Birthday BigHunt! Didn't even know it was your birthday! Anyway, thanks Dan and Carol for everything, as well as everyone else that attended and helped out. Was a great learning experiance and I met some great people. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Dan is a very down to earth guy and I'm very appreciative that he is willing to share his wealth of knowledge of the deer woods with us guys on here. Thanks again Dan!

Looking forward to the pictures.

Re: 2015 scouting workshops...JANUARY 17TH
I had a great time at the workshop and learned a lot. Dan shortened my scouting time by years! I am looking forward to scouting to see what I can come up with in my area. I now feel like I won't be waisting my time in the field just hoping to see a mature buck because I know there is a lot better chance I am set up on one. After getting home last nite I put in the marsh bucks DVD and watched until the tooth picks holding my eyes open collapsed. That is one of the best "hunting" videos I have ever seen. You helped take my game to a entire new level I didn't know existed. I have only been a member of the beast for a couple months and have learned more in that time then all of my 25 yrs of hunting combined. Thank you dan for being so selfless and sharing your incredible knowledge of hunting with everyone on this site, in your DVDs and at the workshop.

Re: 2015 scouting workshops...JANUARY 17TH
Had a good time at the 2015 scouting workshop. Met some nice people and got to see the "beast style" tactics and set-ups first hand.
The things that stuck out for me is how a property can be broken down and hunted no matter what the size. Once you find bedding areas you can plan out how you enter the property. Also the use of observation stands was key. Transitions of any type are very important when looking for beds on a new property. Might be a transition between marsh and timber, or a transition between CRP and timber..
Proximity to bedding was a key take away in-order to be successful in daylight hours, most of Dan's examples were within 150 and some were much less. With this only walk in as far as you have to in-order to get to your potential kill tree. Back tracking to a different tree could burn your set since a mature deer will pick up your scent from the furthest point you walked in on.
Overall it was a good day in the woods and marsh!
Here is the full gallery of pics:

Some Bedding Pics:
Bed on a small rise behind a barn, overlooked place where the deer can see out into the field with the wind to its back
Vantage point of beds on elevation, again wind to their back looking down hill
Dan discussing a bed and how they enter the area to hunt
More beds
Shed Found! Everyone in the group walked past this the first time. It was found just adjacent to a know bedding area
Good example of a point that transitions into the marsh, look for bedding off the point
Picture of inside the point, looking out towards bedding at the tip, this area is usually surrounded by water but the frozen marsh allows us to get to it
Dan discussing proximity of one's set-up to the bedding
Some smaller rubs in the area
Dan discussing the importance of height on rubs
Like this one
Remote bed rubs
Making the trek out to the remote marsh island
bedding area on remote island with rub
view from main remote island out to small satellite trees holding bedding
View from one of the beds
View looking back at the main island
Big bed on the primary satellite tree that is 75-100 yards off the main remote island, typically this is under water except for a 5 foot diameter ring around the tree. Bucks have been using the mainland bed more often in recent seasons which has made it difficult to approach and set-up. It is more ideal if they use this bed since Dan can get in on the mainland without being detected.
Another view from bedding back to the main remote island
After each area we had an open "what have you learned" discussion. This helped everyone share there thoughts and asked questions related to their properties etc...

Another fine scouting workshop is in the books! I look forward to these each year, you always pick up tips and get to meet more great folks! It also gets the scouting bug formed early!
