several new bucks in area

Unread postby dbl lung » Thu Feb 25, 2010 10:34 am

I received permission to hunt a small tract of property last year (09/10). I new there were several nice bucks in the area from pictures I received in 08/09 on a neighboring property. This year I discovered the landowner who, is a non hunter, and likes to feed the birds. I put up a camera near his bird feeders only to discover several nice bucks using the feeders all different times of day. There is one particular buck which started to show about a month ago that is a real monster. A friend of mine has pictures of this buck back in October on a property about 3 miles away. Now that all the bucks have lost their antlers I have taken a couple walks looking for the bedding areas and antlers. What are the odds of these deer staying in the area?

That is really dependent on the individual buck, food sources, and home ranges... A lot of times bucks will travel to the outskirts of there range in winter time and not go there the rest of the year.. All you can do is wait and see. If the property has good bedding, good food, water, and the deer feel safe, good chance he might stay too.
