New Location Scouting Help

Unread postby Chuck-C24 » Thu Aug 28, 2014 1:23 pm

I'm new to this and have been reading and learning soooo much in the past few weeks. Yall' are awesome and have really gotten me into the game/puzzle of it all.

Any help with prime areas to focus on would be greatly appreciated. I'm not a beast hunter by any means. And I don't expect to slay a monster or anything this year, but learning about the tactics and areas to focus in on would help a bunch!

Thanks in advance yall'

The area has logging trails as seen in the sat. image and I was there recently and they currently logging a large majority of the pines on the top of the mountain. To the West (all pics are North up like a standard map) there is farm land. The north and east regions of this public area is where the majority of the pressure is. That is why I have picked this location to key in on...also its about a 1.75 mile hike to the deep ravine by the power lines and bluffs on the West area of the map...hopefully that will deter most other hunters!

Man, I got to tell you...You see those transition lines created by those cedar thickets? Scout and hunt in that area and I guarantee you will do ok. Places like that are some of my best spots. Even if they log it, try scouting those edges and looking for big tracks and other sign. If they quit logging by season, the deer will go back and bed near the edges.

I would expect buck bedding in the areas marked in red and my set ups would likely be near the ares marked in blue.

Thanks guys!

I scouted the area and one other...found many areas that looked like bedding, but I just don't have the confidence to know for sure yet. But they were all within a few hundred yards of where Dan said they would be. FREAKIN DEER WHISPERER HE IS! lol

ohh yeah, & found this rub? Is this 2 years worth? I'm not sure if I should be excited about this or if its something else...

Good luck this season... The bedding areas I marked, I would be pretty confident on. Some properties are easier than others to cyber scout, this is one of the easier ones.
