This is a hunk of state land that gets pounded pretty hard during gun season. The wind comes out of the south the majority of the time. I am thinking about being on the little land mass north of the cattails opening morning, roughly where the red dot is. My entry route would be by canoe from the swamp north of it. The biggest problem is that part of the state land is only open to the public from October 1st till December 31st. So, I won't be able to scout it until bow season. What do you think?
What do you think of this spot?

looks like a decent spot... Bucks might get back there before daylight... I would look at historical images of that spot for the best view and zoom in close to see the deer trails going back so you know where to focus.

That has been one of my worries. If everything looks good and I decide to hunt there I will try to be in a stand a good hour before light.

Hard to do on a blind hunt... But, the positive is you get to look at how it lays out and see where they bed after your hunt and maybe you can find a way to sneak in for an evening hunt in the future. I have a few spots that lay out like that that I have learned ways to get in without spooking in the evening .

Re: What do you think of this spot?
Dan, for this year I am looking at it as more of a good high pressure spot for opening morning of gun season
than I am a beast style bow hunt. The plan is to hunt it once right after our October 1st bow opener and do some major scouting, find a good tree for a stand, then come back a couple hours before light on opening day of gun.
Depending on what I find, I may bow hunt it next year.
Sorry, I should have stated opening of gun in my first post.
