Here's another vote for Vortex. Probably the best value ($ to quality) in the market. If your looking to make out racks at 1500yds, I agree you will need a spotting scope and stabilization.

Well I got the 15 X 70 stargazing bino's. They seem to be a great & very cheap ($60) alternative to a spotting scope. I just got them in yesterday so I have limited use, but it looks like the range is going to be just over a mile. A steady prop is key to being effective at the long ranges. I rigged mine on a homemade camera arm.

Not to good for climbing since it tops out at 9', but it's nice to have around for testing out stands.

Awesome.... shows the hunting bino industry has pulled a marketing caper over the hunting world!

Very true. There is a ton of outdoors gear available that is not marketed towards hunters that is much less expensive than what you see in hunting magazines. I get a lot of hunting supplies from a Ben Meadows and Duluth Trading Company.

Those things are huge! :) As others have stated, I love my Vortext binos. Can't beat the lifetime warranty either.

They are 3lbs & almost a foot long - not made for neck wear!!!!

These are Celestron Skymasters they also have a lifetime warranty. I had emailed a rep with Celestron before ordering these at Best Buy. I questioned the difference between their sport & stargazing optics. The response was stargazers have better glass, but of course the sports are built compact & light.

I'm also for Vortex. You can't beat the quality, price, and warranty!
