Can anyone give the size of deer that made this. Do you look at rub size? Height on tree? Or other?

Those gouges look deep an looks like it has decent height. I would say he is one to be watching for this season.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Height of center of rub is a good age indicator... Also look for small marks above the main rub or on background trees or brush to get an idea of tine lenth.

I agree with ghost hunter, rub looks deep and tall if that's from last fall he only got bigger this season. Safe for me to assume its not a 2 1/2 year old. Try to find its hoof prints. Worth scouting at least.... :L:
When that big buck walks towards you this fall, concentrate on your breathing and get your eyes off his antlers.
