Is this deer poop?

Unread postby john1984 » Mon May 19, 2014 11:14 am

I went scouting today and took notice of concentrated piles of poop pellets right at the base of 2 different pines. It looks like deer pellets but why is it piled up right at base of the tree?? ImageImageImageImage

I was thinking rabbit. But we do not have porcupines down this way.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Second thought, really does not look like rabbit either.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

These scat pellets gave me a false impression. I found one spot where there were rubs close by to this pine,Image the things about this tree was that the pellets were not right at the base. They were 3 to 4 feet around this pine, in piles. Looked like deer pellets, but just seemed like too much for one tree Image

No rabbits in this particular area, too many predators

Dang porky's. I thought that was just too much scat on one spot to be a deer. But the pellets look very similar

Here is a BIG pile of porcupine poop. That is a huge white pine in NW Wisconsin. The poop pile was over two feet high as I remember. If you look close, there is another foot of poop inside the hollow tree.

Those porkies and worth a . They are very hard on the Hemlocks , spruce and pines. I shoot them. I'm not sure it's the right thing but ther DNR encourages it.
