Easter in the Swamp!!
What better way to spend Easter than scouting in a swamp!!
I scheduled the entire morning with the family for all of the normal activities for the day... followed by me darting for the swamp!!
I passed a small swamp on the way to where I park, and thought I saw horse tracks on the road... I'll definitely have to look more closely here soon.
Finally at my parking spot, I switched the fancy clothes for the swamp gear on my tailgate and headed out! I had an island I wanted to reach that has looked appealing to me for quite a while. There is so much water in the swamp right now that I took on water despite my hip boots... But once I arrived I found what I was after, and got and Easter Suprise to boot!! I managed to kick a very big deer, all alone, right out of his bed. Instead of jumping off the back off the small island, he decided to run across it in full view of me and give me a great look at him- he's a horse! I gave him an Easter salute as he took off through the water, he really made my day. He has several beds along the backside of the island, and likely rotates between them depending on the wind. One of the beds had an old rub right on the tree he bedded against that was made a couple of falls ago...
Then I looked a little farther up the tree and could see where he has been rubbing his forehead on it- even at this time of the year. There were several deer hairs stuck to the tree up above the rub.
There were some decent rubs fairly close to the bed.
One of the other buck beds:
This is the tree on the front of the island where my stand will be placed... I can literally step onto the island and move a few yards to the side and get into this tree. Bedding is about 75 - 100 yards from it, but I can cover the entire front of the island and one entire edge. The spruce shields me in front and I have a nice little shooting window through the spruce to the rest of the island..

Looks like another successful day. I'm so envious, it was gorgeous out and I couldn't get out to scout a few places I've been dieing to get to. Awesome pics, another piece to the puzzle.
