I was able to spend a day scouting two public areas that I am looking at hunting this year or next. I have scouting both of these before.
The one area I found some really good stuff but didn't take much pictures. Here are just a few from that area.
The other area is an area I know pretty good. This was my 3rd trip here. Last year I was able to find a great spot. I named it "booner's bedroom". You can see why.
Here are the pictures from last spring - 2013
So you can imagine I was anxious to get back to this spot and see what was going on. Its a little bit of a hike about 2 miles and across two pretty good size drains. Its a group of cedar trees that make an oval shape. There is a lot of undergrowth and briars around it. I have to crawl on my hands and knees to get to the bed. It has 3 light trails going into it.
Here is what I found as I approached it.
Enough to get a person excited but I wanted to see that tree inside it and here is what I found. You can see the bed at the base.
Looks pretty much the same to me?
So that has me excited but I wanted to scout it really good and come up with a potential plan of attack. I worked my way down the ridge a little farther. I found some more big rubs all on cedars.
Here is one.
Then I walked up on this and just shook my head. These are the biggest rubs I've ever seen in person.
So now my plan of attack. I am still processing and trying to figure out how to approach this without blowing it.
Here is a couple videos on my initial thoughts.

This is a video of a water crossing I checked out. I am trying to figure out how they are approaching this area. The flood plain below the bedding areas or along the ridge. My guess is the ridge. I know they can swim but the sign is telling me they are using the ridge.

Hope the videos work. Anyway just thought I'd share because even though they are just rubs, they are the "right" rubs and they are huge. I'm thinking a pretty big buck and its used year after year so I think even if one goes another will move in. Can't wait to hear everyone's thoughts opinions.

Nothing but a white screen comes up for me. Sounds like you found a good spot though.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

Nice looking areas for sure.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
