Deer hunting terminology for scouting

Unread postby Back in the Pines » Wed Mar 12, 2014 3:17 pm

So when I first started hunting several years back and tried talking to other hunters, it was like they were speaking another language. "Get down to that draw there!", "Setup at that funnel", "Look for the transitions". I had no idea what they were talking about.

Here is an excellent source to find out what everyone is talking about when we talk about what kind of geographical features to look for when scouting. (I looked this up because I am still confused) :)

You'll notice guys using very specific terms when reading topographical maps on this site too. The book Mapping Trophy Bucks book by Herndon is a help. Also there are some threads here with examples and guys debating over terms.

Just posted this link on another thread, but it works here too. Pretty much hits on all the topo terms.
