Check out this picture and tell me what you think?

Unread postby basspro05 » Sun Jan 26, 2014 3:20 pm

We cyberscouted a ridge and finally put the boots to the ground, on one of the points we came upon a 12 ft x 12ft area that was completely covered in droppings, there was some buck droppings...we just couldn't figure out if all the other piles of droppings were does?
It was on the very tip of a point, and on the top of about a 30' bluff wall....no rubs just a little bit of fur? Anybody ever stumbled upon an area like this? There was so much poop there it was like someone dumped buckets of it. Is this a bed with this much poop in it???

It's all deer crap?

I've seen where porcupines have left mass piles like that when wintering over but not deer.

New one on me.

A deer/s have spent some time there.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I have seen places before bucks left droppings an urinated repeatedly in an area about the size of a dinner table. It was bad an you could smell it from a considerable distance. Each time I saw it it was during the rut.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

I've found 1 area such as you describe myself. I'm not saying what you found is the same , but what I found was a primary buck bed off a island point in a marsh. I found 2 piles of buck dropping next to bed and hundreds of other droppings as well. Best I could tell they were rabbit droppings.

I see it on my property where the deer are bedding close to a food source through the winter.
After that it is back to normal.
Was that spot near a food source?

It is not super close to a food source, about 300 yards to the north, but there is a major highway and a large creek between the food and the point where I found this.

Sad though I think it may almost be unapproachable... The only way you can enter the property is the wood lot that borders the highway, and it is very mature and wide open so from that beds vantage point, you can see everything...

Hunt it first while the canopy is thick. You should be able to get in there.
