Disclaimer: I have posted this all before so I know a lot of you already know about how much I like my zodiak for deer hunting, but there are lots of new members so this is for them, lol.

Are you guys sure you want a kayak or canoe instead of a small zodiac???

A zodiac is way more portable.

They hold more gear.

I'd have to check for sure, and it obviously depends whats inside, but it doesn't take but a few inches of water to float on.

Image

You can use a motor for bigger water, or oars in smaller places.

They are quiet,( obviously without a motor) if you are rowing. No metal or plastic to make any noise.

They are tough. That aren't "rubber rafts" .

Mine will hold 1000 lbs!

And if you get a buck, no problem.

If guys are split between a canoe or kayak maybe check these out?

http://m.nucanoe.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2F ... om%2F#2602

I was told by a dealer in shawano wi these are the best of both worlds. Very stable and reasonably priced.

I have a 16' mod-v Jon boat for larger water access ( still have a 14' Jon I would sell) but looking for something smaller. I had an otter duck boat and they are great for stability along with being able to fit inside a pickup truck bed. Problem is they weighed about 120 without seats, motor mount, trolling motor and battery.

I am going to seriously look at the nu canoe this spring to add to my boat collection.

Interesting Hodag, looks like a great inbetween product. Spy I do like the zodiac as well, just had the canoe before I found out about them.

I used to have a 15' jon but not stealthy enough for sneaking in close. Sold it and got a canoe. Now sold that and got a kayak. Getting smaller and smaller. That nucanoe looks pretty cool. I'll have to look into that more if I don't like the kayak I have.

I have had both and went back to a canoe.....You get what you pay for just like other hunting equipment.
I will wager anyone to take their preferred kayak at say 60-100# and then get in my OLD TOWN PACK ANGLER at 12' and 40# or my el cheape fiberlight glass 14 foot at 45# which can be found all over craigslist for under 300. With a kayak paddle they haul the mail.
Both are warmer and quieter than plastic or aluminum.

I have a Grumman sport boat the runs in very shallow water, can haul 600-700# no prob..I put a go devil mud motor on the back of it this year and was running it through cattail banks, super thick lily pad bays and silt flats to scout..man that was great after struggling with paddles, poles, choking outboards and banging props on logs.

For longer runs and bigger waters, the all welded jon with a big outboard

Zodiac is interesting but if I'm using a motor I want it on the back of a boat not fuming up the back of my car or truck

Obviously there are several great options, I will say this in defense of my kayaks. A few years ago I arrived for a gun hunt on a public marsh adjacent to a river. When I arrived there were two guys already there, one with a canoe and one with a john boat. I pulled my kayak (already loaded with my lonewolf) out of the truck, slipped my gun under the front bungie and drug it down to the river, while they fumbled with their watercraft and gear. Before I set sail both guys came over to laugh and discuss how their set ups were a pain compared to what they just saw me do in <2 minutes. They laughed even harder when I came riding the doe out. :D . Having a kayak or other small watercraft will stream line your approach, you'll quickly figure out what you really need on a hunt, which for me most of the time consists of a tree stand, something to kill a buck with and something to gut the buck.

As long as you dress for the job at hand it's not bad at all.
In NC, sweating isn't the worry on warmer days, it's cottonmouths.

They are about $1500 new. You can get them if you constantly search craigslist.

I bought mine for $25 at an auction......Yea, that says twenty five dollars. :o

Spy, is that a 10'? Does it have a soft bottom or hard?

About how much does it weigh, packed up??

I see several on Craigslist in my area for couple hundred bucks.

Thanks.

I want to be just like you when I grow up.
