This is the first time I have posted a map of hunting land. So I wanted to give this a shot.
Where do you think the best mature buck bedding areas are on this map??

Re: Scout for Beds on this
whew!! LOTS of points there!!
Dan, is there a reason you picked the ones you did? or are ALL of the points places to look?
i know wind typically dictates the points they will use..
a map like that hurts my brain with all those points...lots of options there..

Might look like lots of options, but really if you consider the best beds or most likely used by a mature buck are going to be on only the points the wind is blowing down, that cuts down that number considerably on any given day.

Re: Scout for Beds on this
Getting back to your question, I picked the bedding points that worked best for the most common winds.

seeing different maps here is GREAT...but seeing someone put some dots on a map doesnt always help..knowing WHY that dot went there does...

Access is going to be the biggest issue in attempting to hunt this area. The big creek running north/south is the obvious divider of the map and then it "T's" towards the top.
It seems like the majority of the bedding is found there.

I have picked Dan's brain before on this subject and I don't even hunt hill country. He generally puts his money on the steepest points that cover the most wind directions including your predominant wind direction in the fall. I have seen him put dots on many of these points and guys reply back after scouting about how 'on the money' his suggestions were.
No Shortcuts. No Excuses. No Regrets.
Everybody's selling dreams. I'm too cheap to buy one.
