So I went and pulled my camera card from my one of first camera placements since finding this forum and applying some of what I have learned.
Here is what I had...
Not bad for public land, right?
The bedding, as far as I can tell, is on these small elevation bumps in an other wise flat area.
Here is an overview of the small hills that are covered in brush...
The brush on the right is actually a small roughly 20x20 hill with a bed, droppings and rub inside. The bed has views in all directions since it is above the waist high briars and grass.
The droppings and tracks are fairly fresh. I did manage to put the camera near the bed so I can see if he is coming and going and when. Now I just have to make myself stay out for a while and not be in and out too much.
Does anyone have experience with bucks bedding in spots like this? It was the first time I have poked my head into one of these tiny hills and I was quiet please with what I found!
Based on the trails I am seeing in and out of the area it is going to be extremely hard to setup anywhere within 200 yards due to lack of trees, thick cover, brush etc.
New spot, big buck, odd beds...

Small hills are common bedding in mostly flat terrain.

Hard to say without seeing it first hand but it sounds like I would be planning on crawling in and hunting that bed from the ground...

Either that or try to setup in one of those pine trees in the background. My biggest challenges are figuring out which wind he prefers for these beds and that he has a 360 degree view of the area around.
I know of two possible areas with some available browse, one being in the background area of the daytime photo, so I will likely have to make my play at one of those spots.
Now to figure out when he prefers these spots.
