This year for next year

Unread postby lostinstateforest » Sat Oct 26, 2013 5:35 am

I killed, harvested, smoked etc my buck yesterday. He wasn't the age group I was hoping for but I was successful in harvesting a buck on extremely large plot of state forest that is very difficult for most to acess let alone KHSE deer. I believe the deer is a 2.5yo but I am having he aged. He had a very large body and loaded with fat. This surprised me due to what I feel is a lack of food outside of acorns. The stand was selected through map scouting for beds and it was spot on. Deer was bedded less the 50 yards from me. I couldn't see him but there was a ledge between me and the backside of where he can from.

So for the question. Is it ok to go scout this area now? Look for rubs, scrapes, and beds? Should I wait until later? I will be scouting it for next season, now I live close but next season I won't be in this state so scouting must be completed by March.

Thanks LISF

Congrats on the Buck! If not planning to hunt it anymore this year I would go scout it, but I'm not a experienced Beast hunter yet, so I'm sure other will have a better take for you.

Scout it if you want.... might mess up some other guys sitting though. Use your best judgement and try not to screw up other hunters

Yep, look the area over real good now.

I would scout it out but be sure to go back and check the areas after season. Don't rely totally on buck beds with so much season left. Nothing worst than hunting a buck next year that bit the bullet in December.

Say you kill the beast from this bed, anyone kill another 1 later in the season from the kill bed? The season can be long, just curious what the pros have experienced. Thanks
