Re: Primary bed
I find very few surefire 'primary' beds. But when you do find them you know almost immediately. It is a bed that is very well worn, usually has new and old rubs, is very very hard to get close to without the buck knowing way in advance and has several escape routes just in case.

X2! Got one of those in KY. Pret near impossible to get up on him, but I "may" have a way or two to pull it off. Both are low percentage options and neither will be fun, but hopefully I will be down there again next year to find out. There is always more than one good buck in that area and I suspect they all use it.
These types of beds are primary for good reason!

Re: Primary bed
agree with "used most of the year" and that many are worn to the dirt. But for me, a great indicator is when the bed has been used so often and for so many years, that there is "dent" in the ground, usually a couple of inches deep. It takes a tremendous amount of bedding to dent it like that. three of these beds have these "dents" in the ground, the other two are worn to the dirt and usually hold a buck in deer season. These are what I consider to be primary beds.

Re: Primary bed
Great pictorial on the beds SB. I think this will help the guys looking for beds a bunch.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
