Does anyone know of a site where you can view arial photos that were taken during the winter with no foliage? I'm looking for something that will really help me to see densities. Thanks.

I don't know of any winter (with snow on the ground) sites. however, the county GIS maps (free public information) for the counties you hunt will have multiple years of foliage free aerials. Many of these show the densities quite well.
Just google "Smith County GIS" for your county and it will link you to the interactive mapping site for that county.

Re: Arial photos taken during the winter?
Usually the aerial companies avoid "winter" shots because of the glare it can produce in the image. Not sure if that is still the same with digital imagery. Usually many of the free images you see on websites are taken from the USDA and FSA during the summer for crop identification. Every so often they sneak in a pre-growth spring photo session. I know when I worked for county government we had to order leaf off imagery from a private company. We did this once every 3 years and just used the USDA/FSA stuff in the off years. I am sure there are private companies that have done leaf off pictures but my guess is they are pay to view services. Google does their own thing now with imagery but everything I have seen is leaf on.

Luckily Bing Birds Eye for my area was taken during the winter. No snow down here though. Its hard to see much detail during summer with all the green.

You can try looking at the historical images in Google Earth. They may have one during the winter months.

I've never found any winter photos but some of the bring aerials are from the spring before green up and I really like them, you can see a lot more detail. Might depend on your area however, some spots I hunt are from the spring, others the summer.

X4 on the google historical images. Just move the year bar to the left and you should be able to get some other years of an area as well as different times of the year the shots were taken. This does vary greatly from area to area but can be very helpful with both foliage and atleast fall shots.

I like to use historical images for new areas, you can see areas that were past ag land or timbered to give you an idea of where thickets are located and you can generally get the fall/winter images, so you can look for trees with leaves still on. In my area these are always oaks and beech trees so I can pin point the nuts before I've ever set foot on the property.
