Found these two fawns

Unread postby rutnbuck » Tue Jun 04, 2013 6:14 am

Unfortunately not the way you plan. Was scouting this past saturday back in the marsh and came across some bedding and found these two fawns (buck and doe). Pretty wet back in there so I'm questoning what happend? No predator marks around, nothing eating at them...just looked like they stumbled into the water. Maybe Mom got hit by a vehicle? Not sure. Complications at birth? Has anyone else ever run into this?

Bummer.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Hard to say what happened... Looks like mom abandoned them, or was killed (possibly by a car? ) but who really knows...

That sucks to see. I was thinking a flash flood might have gotten them. They were hidden from predators just not the rising water.

Yeah that's unfortunate. Hate to see things like that. Mother nature can be a cruel one at times.

How "fresh" were they?

More often than not a doe will bed her fawns down in different locations....not that close together. A doe killed by car will eventually kill the fawns this time of year but hard to say they got up and found each other and then die in the same location.

Did it look like still births?

That's my guess.

I would say 24_48 hours, just started to odor. Hoofs were still curled on the tips. The only reason I do not think mom was killed by vehicle is the roads are 2 miles away, wouldn't think she would venture that far from her little ones. Anyone's guess.

Very sad to see!

I agree with them being still births. Only thing that makes sense with them being dead so close together but they may have drowned too I suppose if there were flooding rains.
