The never ending winter!!!

Unread postby headgear » Sat Apr 13, 2013 3:56 am

Just venting a bit guys! Other than cyber scouting I have not been in the woods since early January and its downright depressing! We just got another 6-7 inches on top of a good sized snow pack and this likely sets me back another week or two. I attempted to scout last weekend but got the truck stuck 3 times and was still a couple of miles from my target area. I seriously need a snowmobile to scout this year. I could have hiked back but didn't have the time to travel in the deep snow before I ran out of light. I know my time will come but this has been a crazy spring.

It is not April 12th. It is more like Feb. 72nd.

We finally are experiencing a fairly normal winter that is lasting a bit longer than we are used to. I think we all became spoiled the last few years and forgot how it should be here in the midwest! ;)

I hear ya Dewey, it has been warmer but man this year has been crazy. We average 8 inches of snow in March and got 24 this year and add another 10 inches in April so far with more snow on the way. I've seen snow on fishing opener a few times so that is nothing new, its just the crazy inches we are piling up. I think we are approaching snowfall records not seen since the early 60's.

Isn't funny how mother nature has a way of evening things out? Last year I was mowing my lawn by the end of March! :o

So glad I decided to scout last weekend even though I had other things to do. We got a fresh couple of inches of snow over the last week too.

Getting pounded with more snow tonight, I did venture out on Sat and crossed off a few close to the road overlooked locations I thought had a chance to hold mature bucks. Snow was deep in most of the swamp but it was a good workout and just nice to get out there. Another 4 inches on the way tonight and nothing but snow in the forcast all week. Like I said, never ending winter. ;)

Never seen a winter like this......ever. We honestly have some lakes with 30" of ice yet....24" on a lot of lakes. Snowed Friday, Saturday and now again today. More in the forcast for next Wed, Thurs and Fri.

Snow in late April or early May isn't that uncommon.....snow staying on the ground in the quantity and the weather staying consistantly cold like it has been is unheard of here.

Scouting is a few weeks off......

Getting the boat out is weeks away.....

Starting to get nervous for the deer. Seeing more and more showing in broad daylight along the less traveled roads. We need trees to bud and grass to show soon.
