Re: Scouting workshops for 2013...
Thank you Dan for sharing your hunting techniques and experiance with all that attended.
Dan took the time to answer every question that was asked.
Good to see the younger hunters involved in the sport.
I think Dan had the right idea with the self draining muck boots!
My boots are still on the dryer, could take a while.
Thanks to Dave for sharing his farm with us and Carol for the great food!

Looks like another very successful scouting session.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Scouting workshops for 2013...
I almost called at the last second to see if you had room for me and now I regret not doing so. It turned out to be great weather and it would have been nice to meet more Beast members in person. I would really like to have met Dave and walk his property as well as talk to Jeanie. I know I would have had a great time and enjoyed being out in the marsh. I would have liked to see Dan's new Aqua Sock in action too.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

Re: Scouting workshops for 2013...
I’m uploading my photo’s to photo bucket now so I should have them soon. This workshop was defiantly worth the experience. Since before the beginning of the Beast, I followed Dan very close and listened and remembered almost everything he would say. I really always thought I understood everything from the videos, but it’s hard to really understand this stuff and wrap you head around it until you can stick your boots into it and actually see it and understand Dan and his tactics in person. I learned a lot all the way from hill countryish and farmland bedding to the way Dan picks out beds in the swamp. I have really been looking at a lot of my scouting in a weird backwards way and this will really help me get my head straight. I think, the most important thing I learned about was transition lines. A transition line is not just where cattails meet hardwoods. It can be way more and different than that. Thank you Infalt family for the workshop and the great food. The camaraderie was great! It was a fun group and good to put some faces with names. I hope to meet you all again soon!

Cool pictures. Thanks for teaching all of us members who went what to look for while scouting and tips on how to hunt bedding grounds. I learned alot from this workshop.

Re: Scouting workshops for 2013...
I'd like to thank Dan & Carol also for taking the time to make it a great day and a great workshop. Over the weekend I found that hospitality isn't only found in the south. It was my first time to Wisconsin and everyone I met along the way was friendly, especially Dan & Carol and the guys (and gal) who attended the workshop. Great group of people, all top notch for sure. I'd also like to thank Dave for letting us tramp around his farm, good guy.
The workshop itself was great. Alot of what Dan taught thru the day I'd read before here on the forum over the years, but seein it firsthand really brought it home. The amount of detail we seen and heard sometimes can't be related over the forum. Being able to discuss it while standing there looking at it really helps with understanding it. Every question was discussed and answered. Time didn't seem to be an issue and the answers/details were not sugar coated with a bunch of BS. Dan is a good teacher, clear and to the point. You can't argue with his logic and his methods are sound. Very impressive for sure.
I liked the way the day was split up. Also the the discussion on transition bedding, something I hadn't seen before. The marsh was tough (well part of it anyway ) but well wort the effort. The only reservation I had to making the workshop was marsh hunting. We have nothing that resembles that sort of thing down here.... or so I thought. The principles Dan uses there can be applied to alot of areas here. Glad I made it. For me, the most profound statement of the day Dan made was during the discussion sitting on the logs (pic below) after the marsh scout:
"People hunt expecting the deer (mature bucks) to come to them. They spend alot of money buying gadgets and stuff, thinking it will help bring the deer to them. It doesn't work that way. You have to go to the deer. It's all about the bedding."
2 things stood out from the workshop:
#1 The extent these critters will go for security and
#2 The extent a man will go to find them
Great job Dan.
If you haven't made one of these workshops, I suggest you do. It's well worth it.
Discussion after the farm
Bighunt & Dave distracted by turkeys (Dave had a tag)
Heading into the marsh
First trip into the cattails
Discussion on the logs after the marsh walks
Great group of guys (and gal)
